Companies involved in the flexible packaging industry participate in their communities and provide services beyond their business models. Here is a look at some of those efforts at some companies that are members of the Flexible Packaging Association (FPA).
Kuraray Donates to Cleanups and Workforce Development
Kuraray supports local partnerships and community initiatives that embody the company’s commitment to its Medium-Term Management Plan—PASSION 2026. One initiative is a partnership with Coastal Ice & Water and its People Plan initiative, first piloted at Kuraray’s Pasadena, Texas, EVAL plant.
“This program helps reduce waste and reinvest the value of recycled plastic into local scholarships and workforce development,” according to the company. “Our Pasadena site has achieved a 24% recycling rate, far above the 7% national average for plastics, converting waste into opportunity and impact.”
The company also participates in environmental stewardship programs such as Trash Bash®, Texas’ largest single-day waterway cleanup. And it contributes to the Industry Business Roundtable’s annual charity golf tournament, which funds local education and workforce initiatives. Kuraray recently donated $30,000 in equipment to Robeson Community College, enhancing local workforce training programs and supporting education in advanced manufacturing technologies.
Ship & Shore Environmental Supports Education
Ship & Shore Environmental, Inc. supports engineering programs at higher education institutions with scholarships and mentorships. Anoosheh Oskouian, president and CEO, recently gifted $25,000 to the University of California–Irvine’s Samuel Jordan Center for Persian Studies and Culture. It is the largest academic center for Iranian studies in the United States, and the donation honors her heritage and elevates cultural understanding in the community, the company said in a statement. In addition, the California-based company supports children’s causes, sustainability education, and cultural nonprofits that serve underrepresented communities across California.
Printpack Collaborates on Earth Day Initiative
To celebrate Earth Day, Printpack’s Bloomington team joined forces with Roto-Rooter for a cleanup initiative. Together, 18 volunteers collected enough litter to fill a rolling Dumpster. The collaboration helped beautify the local community while highlighting the importance of environmental stewardship.
