Charity Work Goes Digital Because of Virus

American Packaging Corp. (APC) and its owners—the Schottland family—have long been involved with The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp, founded by the late film star and philanthropist Paul Newman in Ashford, Connecticut.

Newman’s vision for the camp was to provide children dealing with serious and life-threatening illnesses a safe place to just be kids and experience the magic that is summer camp. The company’s partnership started when APC was awarded Newman’s Own popcorn bag business. The founder and former CEO, Stanley Schottland, proposed donating a portion of the profits back to the camp.

One of the camp’s major fundraisers is the Big Apple Bash, which takes place every year in New York City, but the event had to be cancelled this year because of the pandemic. However, the company continued to raise funds for the program and supported virtual events, including a weeklong virtual camp session.
