More than $40,000 was raised to encourage careers in the packaging and processing industries during a charity golf tournament held on Sept. 28 before the start of PACK EXPO Las Vegas, according to the PMMI Foundation, the charitable arm of PMMI, The Association for Packaging and Processing Technologies.
PMMI, which produces PACK EXPO, was held over three days starting on Sept. 29, with the biennial Charity Golf Tournament held at the Bali Hai Golf Club.
“Held the day before the opening of PACK EXPO Las Vegas, the event brought together industry leaders and supporters for an exciting, high-energy day of networking, camaraderie, and charitable giving—all to support the next generation of packaging and processing professionals,” PMMI said in a news release.
The PMMI Foundation supports various initiatives to encourage students to pursue careers in packaging and processing, providing more than $5.4 million to education partners and students since its inception. Funds raised at the golf outing—along with events such as PACK gives BACK™, the Amazing Packaging Race, Silent Auctions, and donations from PMMI member companies—complement the financial support provided by PMMI.
“We’re incredibly thankful to our sponsors and golfers for making this event a huge success,” says Stephan Girard, senior director, education and workforce development, PMMI. PMMI also works with SparkForce™, the charitable foundation of the Fabricators and Manufacturers Association (FMA). “Their support ensures that initiatives like the PMMI Foundation and SparkForce™ manufacturing summer camps, as well as academic scholarships, remain available for students across North America.”
