LyondellBasell held its 21st Annual Global Care Day with a focus on food security in the fall, with more than 80 manufacturing facilities and office sites participating.
The global event supported 87 organizations. The plastics, chemicals, and refining company said it recognized the need caused by COVID-19, so it doubled down on its efforts to support food security, following the company’s charitable contributions made earlier in the year to local food banks worldwide.
“Cancelling our volunteer events in the communities where our employees live and work was not an option, especially when the need for a steady food supply is high and spirits are low,” said Bob Patel, LyondellBasell CEO, in a news release.
Employees and their families could volunteer virtually or in-person. One of the many examples of the work done included workers in Morris, Illinois, who built two pop-up micro food pantries for local residents. The firm worked to stock and sustain the micro pantry and take items as needed, the company said.
