Flexible Packaging Leaders Belong in the SPMC®

Share

If your company manufactures or supplies f lexible packaging materials for the medical sector, there is a place for you in the Sterilization Packaging Manufacturers Council (SPMC®).

As a vital subgroup of the Flexible Packaging Association (FPA), SPMC® brings together sterile packaging leaders to strengthen patient safety, shape global standards, and advance the future of sterile packaging.

Leadership Through Service

Currently, dozens of FPA-member companies are eligible to join the SPMC®

As an SPMC® member, your company appoints representatives within your organization to participate in the council’s dynamic committees, including the Executive, Technical, Marketing, and Sustainability & Regulatory Committees.

Each year, committee chairs are elected, creating leadership pathways for seasoned professionals, as well as mid- and early-career professionals. SPMC® committee members say the value is immediate.

“The thing I have found most rewarding about my participation has been working with and getting to know others within the industry,” says Bill Cassidy, product development manager at Amcor Flexibles and chair of SPMC®’s Technical Committee.

Collaboration That Elevates Everyone

Inside the SPMC®, members do more than attend meetings: They build the future of healthcare packaging.

Members share technical expertise, co-develop packaging test methods, work closely with global standards organizations, and publish consensus-based white papers and position papers that inform the industry’s best practices.

The SPMC® also leads Sterile Packaging Day, a high-profile annual event that amplifies the people, technologies, and innovations safeguarding patients around the world.

As a collaborative forum, the SPMC® benefits its individual member companies, the professionals who serve on its committees, and the entire industry.

“Everyone involved is committed to collaboration and continuous improvement,” says Maddie Hahn, marketing manager at PAXXUS, Inc. and chair of SPMC®’s Marketing Committee. “It’s motivating to be part of a group that’s driving real progress and making a positive impact on patient safety.”

Former Technical Committee Chair Marie Tkacik, director of product development and optimization at Beacon Converters, Inc., emphasizes the collective educational benefits.

“By working with other sterile packaging manufacturers, our knowledge base and unified voice create educational materials for people of all levels of experience and expertise in the medical device industry,” she says.

Leadership Recognition

For more than 30 years, SPMC® member companies have set the standard for sterilized flexible packaging, thanks to their dedication to the entire industry.

Member companies are regularly featured in leading industry publications and highlighted across SPMC®’s digital platforms, including LinkedIn and the organization’s official website.

Additionally, SPMC® members are often invited to speak at major trade shows, healthcare packaging conferences, and legislative events, where they share their expertise with peers and policymakers alike.

Membership That Fits Your Role

SPMC® offers two distinct membership types to meet the needs of different business models.

Converter members are FPA-member companies that primarily convert raw materials into sterilizable packaging components and operate a dedicated healthcare or sterilization packaging unit in the U.S.

Associate members are FPA-member companies primarily involved in supplying materials, equipment, testing, or services related to healthcare flexible packaging, and they maintain U.S. sales operations.

If your company is committed to improving sterile packaging and shaping its future on a global scale, SPMC® is where your voice belongs. Reach out to Emily Patten, FPA director of membership and meetings, at epatten@flexpack.org to explore membership.
