Printpack to Close Illinois Plant
Atlanta-based Printpack intends to close its manufacturing facility in Elgin, Illinois, with operations winding down over the next six months, the company said in a recent statement.
The Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act requires companies to file notices when they plan large layoffs or plant closures. The WARN notice filed on November 12 indicates that about 111 workers will be affected at the plant in Kane County, Illinois.
Jack Austin, COO of the flexible packaging manufacturer, met with Printpack workers at the Elgin plant in November to outline the company’s transition plans.
“It is never easy to make decisions that affect the lives and livelihoods of our associates,” Austin said in a statement. “Our Elgin associates have demonstrated exceptional dedication and professionalism throughout the years. Unfortunately, shifts in core market demands impacted our ability to serve customers from Elgin, making the decision necessary.”
Printpack says workers will be offered transfer opportunities to jobs at other company locations. It also will provide severance packages and career-transition support.
